Results that can be seen from choosing to improve your smile

A Boost in Self Esteem

Your teeth are a crucial part of your identity. Every time you talk or smile, they can be seen! By choosing to improve your smile, you are choosing to boost your self confidence for the long haul. It doesn’t matter what age you are. Everyone deserves a confident, beautiful smile that they don’t have to hide.

Better Oral Hygiene

Would you like to brush, floss, and improve your overall gum health? Braces and Invisalign will properly align your teeth making it easier to achieve this. When your teeth and jaw are in proper alignment, it makes brushing and flossing a lot easier and more effective. Plaque won’t have as many places to hide and build up, resulting in less cavities for you!

Improved Bite

At Freytag Orthodontics, we aren’t just straightening your teeth, but improving your bite as well. The bite relationship between your upper and lower arches is critical. There are three classifications of bite relationships: I, II, III. Class I is a normal and balanced bite. Class II is often referred to as an overbite. An overbite is when the upper front teeth and jaw project further forward than normal. Class III is the opposite of Class II. The lower front teeth and jaw project further forward than the top teeth. This is commonly known as an underbite.

Why is a proper bite crucial?

Improper bite alignment can lead to various issues down the road such as tooth wear and stress on jaw joints.  This will inevitably result in costly dental work that could have been avoided if the patient had seen an orthodontist.

Less Excessive Wear on Tooth Enamel

When you improve your smile with braces or Invisalign, you are likely preventing excessive wear on your teeth. This means that the outer layer of your teeth, known as enamel, is worn down more than normal. This occurs when a patient has misaligned teeth and an improper bite. The wearing of the enamel can expose the underlying tissue causing extreme tooth sensitivities to hot and cold. With excessive wear on the enamel, you are at a higher risk for developing cavities as well.

Eating and Chewing Might Become Less “Work”

Your teeth play a very important role as part of the digestive tract- they are specifically designed to cut and crush food. When your teeth are not properly aligned you may struggle biting food and breaking it down small enough for digestion. If you don’t break down your food small enough your stomach may have to work overtime because not enough enzymes were produced while chewing. Without the necessary enzymes food has to sit in your stomach longer leading to bloating and digestion pain.

Many people who improve their smile will also say they experience less food getting stuck in their teeth once they are straight. Not only does this make eating easier, but it will also lessen your chances of tooth decay from sugars sitting on your teeth for long periods of time.
